I think adding black granite countertops could look pretty sophisticated but also could make your kitchen seem a bit dark, especially if you go with the dark cabinetry. In browsing some of the photos on this site, I came across this room shot that shows burgundy cabinets with a light granite countertop...I think it's a nice balance/contrast between the dark cabinetry and the lighter counter surface. http://www.kitchens.com/Remodeling-And-Design/Design/Fe...chens_2005/10-03.aspHope this helps, I think it sometimes works best to look at photos to get an idea of how different colored materials will work with eachother. I think I'm with Daniel. I feel like I've seen a lot of cherry cabinets with black counters and it gets boring. A granite with a little more of a texture or a pattern would be more interesting.
