I desparately need my kitchen cabinet doors replaced. The ribs of the cabinets are in good shape. I have been thinking about painting the ribs a flat black and replacing the door and drawer fronts with a cherry finished replacement door and drawer fronts. I thought about using stainless steel and glass replacement doors; however, with the $2800 price tag for doors I would have been ahead to buy completely new cabinets. Any comments or other color/wood suggestions?
Cherry is about the most expensive standard wood option you can get. Alder, birch or quarter-sawn oak would all be cheaper and can be stained the reddish-brown color that most people think of as cherry.
I have discovered that cherry is expensive. I am now thinking about oak to stain. But what do youthink about painting the ribs of the cabinets black against the cheerys tained doors?
