We have an open floorplan where the kitchen faces the livingroom area. The Kitchen nook is right in front of the island. We were thinking of doing the counters in granite and extending the island to be a "kitchen nook table" instead of buying a table. What that hurt our resale value? We dont plan to move within the next 10 years or so and the house is about 2 years old. Thanks

Hi Jaxmom, Your idea sounds solid. The things I would keep in mind are. 1) Countertops are 36" high, Table tops are 30" high. So lower the top down where you sit, or boost the seating up, now bar height seating is for 42" high tops. Get the right height, it's in between. 2)Make sure yo have enough room to seat the desired number of guests. most people croud in seating, that will not be somewhere you enjoy sitting if you are not careful. 3) Think about support. How will you support the top. If you are unsure seek a professional in your area to assist you.

We are trying to do the same but unsure of the support that is needed to hold the extended portion as we do not want to extend the cabinets.. any ideas/gotchas?
Thanks Ambica
