I'm looking to do some remodeling, but it seems that you read a lot of horror stories about contractors doing shoddy work or not delays in construction, etc.

Does anyone have a checklist they've used, of questions to ask when interviewing contractors to ensure you're getting a reputable one who is right for your job?

I cannot emphasize enough how important is to make sure the contractor is insured and licensed (in states where it is required).

We've had a lot of instance of shady contractor's here in the N.O. area. Here's a company that checks them out for you:
