Hi all
I am remodeling the kitchen and installing an over the range microwave/exhaust unit(OTR).
The range is a flat glass top with no back splash

My question is how high should the OTR unit be above the heating surface. I want to ensure proper working space in the range and not install the MW too high. Cabinet height clearance is flexible. The manufacture says 14" but this seems to shallow to me

I would like to get a feel of other installed heights

Thank you

I have a GE OTR microwave, and it's 16 inches above the range, which like yours has a flat glass top with no backsplash.

You might want to check out your local building codes and see if there is anything about it in there.

Thanks for the reply
Building code says that any combustible surface must be 30" above cooktop surface. I check other installations at home depot and even the microwave LG puts it at 14" above cooktop. I ended installing it 18 " above the cooking surface.

Thank you
