Our kitchen remodel does not include replacing the stove and refrigerator, which are white with black trim. We're installing a black dishwasher (we did not have one). If the stove or refrigerator conks out, we thought we would replace both at the same time with stainless steel and black finishes. Refrigerators are no longer made with white with black trim.

Do you think that would look okay, or should we go with all black? Our new quartz countertop has a lot of black in it--would that be too much black?

While you should be sure to have a good amount of light or a fairly open foor plan and ceiling to avoid giving the black too much dominance in the room, going with all black would allow you a bit more flexibility in the future, since you would not have to match two shades (stainless steel AND black) against the rest of your color choices.

1) There still are appliances made in white with black trim, though I don't see anybody buying them.

2) Stainless steel is basically a neutral--it goes with anything. As long as your kitchen isn't very country or Old World in terms of look, stainless should be fine.

3) Stainless steel appliances is a great buzz phrase for selling a home, if resale value is a concern.

4) On the other hand, if you like all black, that can look great, too. I'd go to an appliance store and see whether black or stainless shows more fingerprints. Maybe you can find something with more of a matte finish.

My cabinets are natural hickory, I am having a white apron front farmhouse sink. I'm trying to decide on what color appliances. Should your sink match your appliances? I like stainless, and I have seen quite a few pictures with white apron front sinks with stainless. I plan on putting old things (like an old pickle jar, scale, graters) on top of the cabinets. I have an all open floor plan where the living, dining, foyer, and kitchen are all in one room. I am very much into rustic, primitive country.

Hi, Stacey
I would absolutely do a combination of stainless appliance with a white apron sink. Think about incorporating the stainless look in your knobs on the hickory cabinets by using a brushed chrome. As you like the rustic, primitive country, why not bring in a linen fabric of brown, white, perhaps a touch of black, and another accent color, red or gold? Fabrics, artwork, accessories are a wonderful way to bring all your colors together. Personally, a lot of people will try to match everything and the result can be pretty boring.
Good luck!

I am also doing natural hickory cabinets with an apron front sink I am thinking of either all white appliances or black. I think stainless is too modern for me. I decorate very old world, country. I am just not sure about black & white.
