We currently have bright white glossy kitchen cabinets. YUCK! We want to paint them, but I'm afraid the paint will not stick. They do not feel like a thick wood. Our kitchen is small and we want color. We are planning on painting the walls and getting new countertop so anything is possible. Any suggestions?

Rita,
You need to be careful what type of paint you use. If it is oil based you will need to use an oil based paint over the other. Or you can use a new primer that will let you use latex if you like. I actually recommend using the primer as the oil based paint stinks so much. Here is the link http://www.zinsser.com/product_detail.asp?ProductID=11

Also, because I recommend you sand the cabinets lightly. To keep the dust down you can use wet sand paper.

Thank you Frank. I thought I would be able to do it that way, but wanted another opinion.
