All cabinets in our kithen are being replaced. One terrific storage cabinet we would like to keep (panels rotate out vertically for single can storage, inside back wall is built for single can storage as well as the inside door). The contractor says the wood 5" deep 6 drawer unit on the inside of each door is too heavy for his new plywood construction doors. Can this be true? Can we order just doors in the same finish as the rest of the cabinets? The current doors are wood 5/8" thick with 4 strong hinges on the inside and room for another one in precut holes. 18" wide and 6ish feet tall. It would be full overlay so the inside facing part only could just be vaneered or laminated to closely approximate the cherry finish I guess. I just hate to give this up. These cabinets are 25 years old but honestly they look like new (the woman never used them)! This cabinet also holds special memories for me.
What if we did two doors one on top of the other or would that look goofy with the one unit inside? Sorry for the length but I am completely stressed out by this project and we haven't even begun yet!
