I had first picked out a solid surface made by Formica for my countertops but now my husband is telling me that it would be the same price if I picked out granite. Which one would be best and what are the pro's and con's for each type countertop?

KB,

This page has good materials comparison info for countertops:

It's possible that you could find granite cheaper than solid surface, if you live in a city where a lot of granite is shipped in, but where solid surface fabricators are rare. It's all about supply and demand.

Formica supplies granite as well as solid surface, laminate, and quartz. So you should be able to get a sense of how all options are priced from one source.

I have had avonite counter tops in my kitchen for nearly 15 yrs. I have 6 kids--and my counter tops look great even now. I would highly recommend them
