We bought a 1916 Craftsman home and had to gut the kitchen because of mold damage. Everything new.....Cabinets are Oak, Mission style, with dark walnut stain. I am running out of money and even though I want granite, am to the point that I probaby can only afford granite on the island. Any ideas? Would it be OK to put formica on the regular countertop, and granite on the island? (Which one should be darker, or lighter?) Feel free to email me......i need help quick!

Today 5 out of 10 kitchens use more than 1 material in the kitchen. I think a granite island looks great and it is practical. It will give you a work surface you can't hurt! If your kitchen is small I would keep it lighter.
